About Me
Until late 2008, I was employed by a local transportation company. I had a variety of duties, including editing, laying out and doing the prepress for the employee magazine; creating up to three employee communication posters a week; running the employee identification card program (I never received a good answer as to why that landed in my lap); editing/designing presentations as requested; and handling a few other odds and ends. The accretion of duties was due, I think, to the fact that I’d been with the company nearly 14 years.
After I lost my job, I gave myself a chance to adjust to no longer working 50-hour weeks, and then I went through the usual job-seeking activities. With the economy behaving like an emo teenager, however, I decided my time would be better spent updating my education. I dropped by the English department at EMU, had a longer-than-expected conversation with Dr. Sipe, and I ended up applying for the Master’s in Written Communication program with a concentration in professional writing.
